These photos of rainbows

Rainbows stay magical no matter how old we get. No matter how jaded, distracted, or hardened the human being, if you say, "Hey look, a rainbow!", they're likely to look up for at least a moment or two.

When I first moved to Colorado, I referred to August and September as "rainbow season." It pretty much is. With the frequent thunderstorms  passing through our hot desert afternoons, rainbows often come afterward. You just have to remember to look for them.

Most kids go through at least a short phase where they're enamored with drawing rainbows. It's a chance to use all the colors at one go. Today, I decided to be a kid and draw some rainbows for you, giving you all the colors I can. I saw a really good one recently (first photo below), which means I got to remembering some of the other ones I've been lucky enough to see. Below, a small collection of rainbows for your Friday.

July 2018. Ridgway State Park, Colorado. This was our gift the night we arrived for a weekend in the trailer hanging with friends.

January 2018. Isla Mujeres, Mexico. We stayed in a sailboat right at the end of the dock, so there was very little between us and our skies.

June 2016. City Park, Denver, Colorado. Every summer Sunday, Denver and suburbs get together for a giant picnic. Rain often joins us, too.

July 2014. Rockygrass Festival, Lyons, Colorado.  My first year at Rockygrass with my now-husband. Everything about it felt magical.

September 2012. Tour De Fat bicycle parade, City Park, Denver, Colorado. I realize I'm bending the rules with this one. Still, I want to celebrate this woman's ingenuity at creating a rainbow to follow her everywhere.
